Better than expected

State Representative Woody Bowman expected a tough re-election campaign in 1982. He had been remapped into a district with popular Republican State Rep. Dolly Hallstrom. Political pundits rated the contest a toss-up.

Democrats and Progressives (those were two different groups of people) worked fevrishly for Bowman. They recruited volunteeers, raised money, and campaigned energetically for him.

On Election Day, Bowman emerged victorious with 68% of the vote. And he had no campaign debt.

His supporters were more worried than they needed to be.
