Connolly's Tap
When I wasn’t volunteering in IVI-IPO political campaigns, my friends and I went bar-hopping on Chicago’s north side.
One night we decided to checkout Connolly’s Tap, on Devon Ave. east of Clark St. We heard that a lot of 49th ward Democratic precinct captains hung out there and we wanted to see what the place looked like.
Everybody inside stopped talking when we entered and they scowled at us as we sidled up to the bar. A picture of former Mayor Richard J. Daley hung prominently on the wall. It was clear, we didn’t belong.
So, we left and never returned.
