Garbage
When Chicago residents were still required to acquire their own garbage cans, the 50th Ward Regular Democratic Organization offered freebies to voters who regularly supported its candidates.
The name of the Democratic Ward Committeeman was plastered on the front of those receptacles, and they were stored in a City of Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation facility.
People didn’t seem concerned about city government providing storage space for political party giveaways. In fact, many thought it logical to stash garbage cans in the same place where garbage trucks were parked.
