It's not my job

When Cecil Partee ran for re-election as 20th Ward Democratic Committeeman in 1988, he anonymously called a civic organization that conducted grassroots, political education sessions, and asked what the duties of a Committeeman were.

He was told that, by law, Committeemen selected election judges and filled vacancies in elective positions if the incumbent resigned or died. That was all.

“Are Committeemen responsible for city services in their wards?” Partee asked.

“No, they are not,” was the response.

“You are correct,” Partee said. “I’m a Committeeman and I am not responsible for city services.”

Apparently, an election challenger criticized Partee for the poor city services in the ward and the incumbent was checking to see if the fellow had been told that by the civic group.
