Take the money

Campaign workers in a 29th Ward precinct offered voters five dollars to mark a ballot for the incumbent Alderman LeRoy Cross in the 1979 municipal election. Supporters of his opponent, Danny Davis, told voters to “Cross Cross,” by accepting the money and then voting for Davis.

 Davis won and later served as a Cook County Commissioner and a U.S. Congressman.
