The City said, "Have a drink"

A fast food restaurant at the corner of Ridge and Clark applied for a liquor license, which required approval of the city Liquor Control Commission. 48th Ward Ald. Marion Volini was vigilant in her oversight of those, as many holders of the prized permit routinely sold alcohol to minors.

So, she opposed the granting of the license. She noted the establishment abutted the grounds of Senn High School and that it was situated within 100 feet of the school building, thus out of compliance with the city ordinance.

Liquor Control officials, though, claimed that a fence along the perimeter of the property prevented people from making a beeline from the school. They would have to walk around the barrier to get to the restaurant, and that turned out to be just a little bit more than 100 feet. The liquor license was granted.
