A reluctant Alderman
Elmer Filippini was elected Alderman of the northwest side 30th Ward, centered in Belmont Cragin, in 1971 following a stint as Ward Superintendent for the Department of Streets and Sanitation. He didn’t like being an Alderman and said he would only serve one term. He resigned shortly before the next election so he could resume his Streets & San career. He was succeeded by George Hagopian.
