A White guy in a Black ward

15th Ward Alderman Frank Brady insisted on running for re-election in 1986 following a court-ordered remap that gave the ward a solid Black majority.

He had won the Black vote in a 1983 runoff election against Michael Hogan, a White opponent, and thought he could be competitive against a Black.

He was wrong and lost by a huge margin to Marlene Carter.

The Democratic Ward Committeeman, State Sen. Frank Savickas, knew Brady would lose and he didn’t even bother to be at party headquarters on election night.
