Vrdolyak's guards
I drove down to the 10th ward, on Chicago’s southeast side, one night in the 1970s to get a look at Ed Vrdolyak’s house.
His palatial home stood at the end of a block of small, non-descript structures. I had my look and realized I was on a dead-end street. I made a U-turn and found myself facing the wrong way on what I hadn’t realized was a one-way street.
So, I turned around again, drove through an alley, and turned onto the next street to drive back home.
A car that was idling at the end of the alley followed me all the way to the boundary of the 10th ward.
