Best Buddies?

48th Ward Alderman Marion Volini discovered a lot of “new friends” when the Machine embraced her and endorsed her for a full term in 1979 (she had beaten its candidate in a special election to fill a vacancy less than a year earlier).  

State Senators Arthur Berman and William Marovitz, State Representative John Cullerton, and former Alderman Marilou Hedlund (whom she had campaigned for in a previous election) suddenly appeared at her fund-raiser, acting as if they were all good buddies. But they weren’t with her at her previous election event and they wouldn’t be with her at her next one, either.
