Catholics aren't Christians?

Mayor Richard J. Daley’s campaign supporters ran a vicious anti-Semitic campaign against challenger Bill Singer in the 1975 Mayoral Primary Election.

One of his southwest side campaigners distributed a letter that started, “We the Christians and Catholics must defeat the Jewish candidate for Mayor.”

I was surprised by that statement. I thought Catholics were Christians.
