State Senator James Loukas was dumped by Democratic party slatemakers in 1970 by order of Mayor Richard J. Daley.

Assuming he stood no chance to win if he ran for re-election, he chose not to run again.

In early 1971, he allowed his neighborhood law office to be used by Richard Friedman, the Republican candidate for Mayor, to store campaign materials and to launch local canvassing operations.
