Hiding from "the boss"
When 50th Ward Democratic Committeeman Jerome Huppert visited my precinct during his morning rounds on Primary election day in 1978, the Democratic precinct captain and his assistant hid in the back of the building so they wouldn’t have to talk to him.
They had lost the precinct in the two previous elections and knew their tenure in the ward organization was coming to an end.
To no one’s surprise, they were dumped from their positions soon after, but their successors only did a little bit better.
