Natarus

As I walked around a gaggle of Aldermen who were huddled in conversation in a hallway at City Hall, 42nd Ward Alderman Burton Natarus stepped away from the group and yelled at me.

“You never say hello,” he shouted.

I was an aide to 48th Ward Alderman Marion Volini and I didn’t make a habit of interrupting groups of elecrted officials. But Natarus may have known that I was also an Independent political leader and expected me to acknolwedge him.

So, I said hello and continued on my way. The other Aldermen paid no attention to me.

Natarus was known for his unusual behavior, so I didn’t really care what he thought about me.

Later, after winning the endorsement of the Jewish Council for Good Government, where I served on the Board, he approached me again and this time was very friendly.
